Abigail Fillmore Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in 1925 and named for the first wife of Millard Fillmore, 13th President of the United States and illustrious Buffalo resident.  The Chapter gavel is made from a newel post in the Fillmore mansion that formerly stood on Buffalo’s Franklin Street.   Unfortunately, Abigail Fillmore, an intelligent and educated woman, is one of our Nation’s most obscure First Ladies.
